Puma – German footwear, apparel and accessories manufacturer. The roots of the puma brand stretch back tot the mid 1920’s when Adi and Rudolph registered their family shoe business.

Post war the Dazzler bros began a feud which led to Rudolf forming a rival business named Puma Aktiengesellscaft Ruldolf sport (puma) while brother Adi incorporated as Adidas.

1948 saw the release of the first puma shoe- the puma atom. The 1950’s saw puma expand into foreign markets however it was not until 1958 that puma signature stripe was introduced. The next few years were spent battling addidas for market share and in the law courts. 1962 saw Pele become a world champion for the second time while wearing puma shoes. Six years later the Puma cat logo was launched the same year saw success for puma with the Puma King as worn by eusebio and the puma suede worn by the Black power runners Thomas Smith and Lee Evans at the Mexico City Olympics.1970 saw the release of the Puma Roma in celebration of the Roma Olympics. The re issue versions remain highly in demand as do the many re issued versions such as the Puma Suede, Puma Basket and Puma Clyde originally launched in the 1980’s.

The initial idea with the brand was to experiment with colours and fabrics in order to create stylish and elegant tennis wear. The project expanded to other sports such as ski fitness golf and sailing. The mid 80’s saw tacchini issue the “Dallas” tracksuit a massive hit on the terraces with the casuals. Simply designed it went on to become one of the decade’s most recognisable items of clothing. Today this is a highly sought after garment. Many great sports stars have worn the tacchini label over the years-Jimmy Connors, Vitas Gerulaitis, Ilie Nastase, Mats Wilander, John McEnroe to name but a few.

Founded by Adolf ‘Adi’ Dassler. Adi created adidas after realizing the need for performance athletic shoes. Adidas began producing football and running shoes, which ironically enough are still the main products that adidas is known for. The adidas brand has continued to gain momentum through the years. The Adidas trainer hall of fame includes the adidas Stan smith/ adidas superstar/adidas trim trab/ adidas nastase/ adidas jeans/adidas rom/ adidas kegler super/ adidas gazelle/consortium series and music series including adidas Ian brown. Adidas have produced a mass of iconic clothing over years from the Ivan lendal and Stefan Edberg tennis collections to the Beckenbauer and superstar tracksuits.
